General Manager, Subsurface
Babafemi Onasanya is the General Manager Subsurface, Oando Energy Resources with overall responsibility for Geology & Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering. He joined Oando in 2014 and brought a wealth of experience in academics, management consulting, petroleum engineering and development planning spanning over 25 years.
Prior to joining Oando Energy Resources, Babfemi worked at Mobil Producing Nigeria for 17 years across a variety of functions including facilities engineering, subsurface engineering, management advisory, development planning & reservoir engineering. A major accomplishment for Babafemi at Mobil Producing Nigeria was the 2016 production startup of the Erha Deepwater, the first deepwater development for Exxonmobil in Nigeria, wherein he was the lead production company reservoir engineer.
Prior to joining Mobil Producing Nigeria, Babafemi worked at Chevron Nigeria for 5 years as a Petroleum Engineer. Before his long stint in the oil and gas industry, in 1992 he was a management consultant at Price Waterhouse Nigeria and lectured at the Mechanical Engineering department, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Babfemi is a COREN (The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria) registered engineer, a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (First Class) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lagos in 1985 and earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi, Kenya in 1989.
